Five Stars Nippers’ Nutrition Programme at Naturally Learning
Naturally Learning is celebrating after receiving five stars in the prestigious Nippers’ Nutrition programme.
The scheme, set-up by Cornwall Council to encourage healthy eating in early years settings, recognises nurseries that provide nutritious food to under 5s as part of a balanced diet.
The programme also asks nurseries to demonstrate a thorough knowledge of different food groups, food labels and dealing with fussy eaters.
“We’re thrilled to have reached the highest level of the Nippers’ Nutrition Programme,” said nursery owner, Mandy Richardson, “particularly across all three of our settings in Truro and St Austell.”
Naturally Learning’s head chef, Lee Russell, who trained with Jamie Oliver’s Fifteen Cornwall, injects passion and knowledge of food into the nursery.
“Eating well isn’t just about enjoying how food tastes,” said chef, Lee Russell. “It’s also about understanding where food comes from, how it’s prepared, and what’s in it. We work every day at the nurseries to get the children involved in our menu – the snacks, the ingredients and the cooking. They love it!”
As part of the Nippers’ Nutrition Programme at Naturally Learning, weekly menus are displayed so parents can see what their children are eating each week. Lee also provides regular healthy and tasty recipes that parents can try at home with their families.
